Xiaomi Telescopic smartphone patent exposure: reel design Display area can be easily doubled

After years of hard work, Xiaomi has become one of Europe’s four biggest smartphone manufacturers. In the third quarter of 2019, the company sold at least 5.5 million smartphones in Europe, with research firm Canalys giving a market share figure of 10.5 percent last month. In addition to its cost-effective product line, Xiaomi has introduced innovative surround-display models such as Mix Alpha. Interestingly, the company is also developing a flexible-screen mobile device, according to the latest revelations from LetsGoDigital, a Dutch technology blog.

Although Xiaomi has yet to officially launch a folding-screen smartphone similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, at least one interesting prototype was unveiled earlier this year. Last week, media also exposed the design of the Xiaomi folding screen smart machine with a pop-up camera.

But the latest is that, as Samsung and LG Electronics revealed earlier this year, Xiaomi is also thinking about a mobile device with a retractable display that can increase the screen display area by 100 percent if necessary.

In mid-2018, Xiaomi filed a design patent for the retractable phone with a side bar, which was approved and released on December 6, 2019, with 14 product images showing different angles.

The device features an ultra-narrow bezel design with a selfie on the left and two cameras on the back of the body. Interestingly, these lenses are not embedded in the sidebar, but are located on the other side of the device.

Obviously, the larger sidebar inside, not only hidden camera module, but also integrated flexible screen storage mechanism. To enhance the screen stability after stretching, it’s clear that manufacturers also need to put some thought into the support.

Although the design patent edited does not delve into the internal structural details, it is clear that it will use a scroll-type scroll design. Previously, Samsung and LG have been exposed to similar reel-style extendable screen-expandable mobile devices.

Large-screen mode can obviously provide an ideal viewing experience when looking at web pages or watching videos. It is not known when Xiaomi plans to launch such a product.
