Daimler agrees to pay $20m in settlement over U.S. auto recall

Daimler’s Mercedes-Benz USA has agreed to pay a $20 million civil penalty to deal with a U.S.-sponsored recall. If the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s settlement does not comply, Daimler will have to pay $13 million and face an additional $7 million in fines.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said daimler failed to notify owners in a timely manner, failed to file all reports and failed to initiate at least two recalls in time for some recalls.

The settlement is due to be announced later Wednesday local time.
