The American Apparel and Footwear Association (AAFA) has announced the 2020 American Image Awards. This award, which honors companies and individuals who have made key contributions to innovation, social responsibility, intellectual property protection and other issues around the world, was awarded this year to five companies and individuals, including Alibaba Group and UNAIDS International Goodwill Ambassadors. AAFA is a trade association representing apparel, footwear and other sewing companies and their suppliers, with more than 1,000 world-renowned brands representing the $400 billion retail market. This time, the AAFA awarded Alibaba the Retail Innovation Award.
Rick Heffenbelin, president and chief executive officer of the association, said the winners not only successfully delivered high-quality and innovative products, but also led the industry-wide effort on global issues including environmental management and social responsibility.
Four years ago, AAFA recommended that the U.S. Trade Representative’s office add Taobao to the “notorious market” list over intellectual property issues. Four years later, at the Global Luxury Law Summit in London, Rick Heffenbelin publicly stated, “Alibaba has raised the banner of intellectual property protection and continued to run for it, thanking the entire Alibaba team for their tireless efforts.” “
