20 (Xinhua) — A Lithuanian man who used commercial e-mail fraud to defraud Google and Facebook of $120 million was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison by a U.S. court. Of that, Google was defrauded of $23 million and Facebook was defrauded of about $99 million. The defendant is identified as Evaldas Rimasauskas, aged 50.
From 2013 to 2015, he and his associates, posing as Quanta Computer, a Taiwanese computer supplier, sent invoices to Google and Facebook for payment. Rimasauskas is registered with a company in Latvia with the same name as Quanta Computer in Taiwan. Quanta is a legitimate device supplier to Google and Facebook.
Rimasauskas was arrested in Lithuania in 2017 and extradited to the United States, where he pleaded guilty in a U.S. court in March. His associates have not yet been netted.
