China’s technology company Huawei should be allowed to participate in Italy’s future 5G network construction, Italy’s industry minister said on Sunday, Local time, Reuters reported. Stefano Patuanelli, Italy’s industry minister and a member of the Five Star Movement, told La Stampa. “We have approved a bill to protect national security. With proper defense, there is no doubt about the potential for (Huawei) to participate in the market,”
Telecom Italia (TLIT.MI), Italy’s largest mobile phone group, is choosing a supplier to upgrade its network infrastructure, with Huawei among potential bidders.
“Huawei offers the best solution at the best price,” Patuanelli said Sunday.
“You can’t preach a market economy on one side and be protectionist on the other,” he added.
