Engineers at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory are not only good at building spacecraft, they are also good at carving pumpkins using carving tools. The results of NASA’s annual Halloween pumpkin carving competition at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory have been announced. The title of the winner is “Lunar Jack-o’lander”, a pumpkin version of the Apollo 11 moon landing.
The competition takes place on Wednesday and allows the teams to prepare the non-pumpkin section in advance, with only one hour to carve the pumpkin and finish the final work. Another of the top prizes was Lucy’s Chocolate Factory, a life-size candy company that recreated I Love Lucy.
NASA posted photos of the game to Flickr. Other entries include the Pumpkin version of the InSight Mars lander, which has a clumsy surface driller on it, and a pumpkin scene dedicated to the raid on The 51st Arlotr, which shows a giant alien wreaking havoc on humans.
