Tesla’s fully autonomous driving takes it one step further: New system identifies traffic signs

Earlier, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said on social media that a fully autonomous version of the “FSD” preview would be available for Tesla owners on Christmas Eve. Just today, U.S. motorists reported that the latest 2019.40.50 system has been upgraded to recognize traffic lights and stop signs (currently only available on HW3.0 hardware), which means Tesla is technically equipped to enable urban road-assisted driving.

Judging from the images exposed by the user, the driving status preview page of the latest system shows the traffic lights in front of the vehicle and the parking line. However, Tesla officials say the vehicle does not actively respond to identified traffic signs and still requires drivers to steer the vehicle.

It’s worth noting that the current feature is only available for models equipped with Tesla’s self-driving 3.0 hardware.
