Based on Fortnite, Unreal Engine’s developer, Epic Games, has become one of the most expensive private companies in the United States, while its founder and CEO, Tim Sweeney, has become one of the most influential business leaders in the country. But for most people, Sweeney remains a mystery.
Sweeney’s personal wealth is valued at $7.2 billion, ranking 244th on Bloomberg’s world rich list. He spent much of his wealth on land for conservation purposes, and he liked to walk in the woods during his break.
He bought tens of thousands of acres of forest land and transferred many of them to land conservation organizations. Sweeney, 49, describes herself as single, unmarried and childless, and living a simple life.
One reason Epic Games chose to set up its headquarters on Crossroads Boulevard was the low cost of living, and game developers could be paid to buy a home, unlike California, where it can only be squeezed into a one-bedroom apartment. It is also close to the sea and mountains.
