On January 2nd, Tianfeng International analyst Guo Mingyu released the first Apple research report of 2020. BYD Electronics is expected to replace Broadreach as an exclusive assembly supplier for the iPod Touch by 2020 and obtain at least 10-20% of the iPad assembly orders, the report said. The above-mentioned transfer of orders is of great significance to BYD Electronics.
Although the iPod Touch shipped only about 68 million units a year, becoming an exclusive supplier means Apple’s partnership with BYD Electronics, which is the first time by BYD has helped Apple assemble handheld devices, according to Mr. Guo.
At the same time, BYD Electronics is expected to expand production of the Wi-Fi version of the iPad by 2020 and take more orders from Renbao, accounting for at least 10-20% of the total iPad shipments.
If BYD Electronics ships the iPad well in 2020, more IPad assembly orders for the Wi-Fi version are expected in 2021. The Wi-Fi version of the iPad accounts for about 60-70% of the total iPad shipments, so BYD Electronics still has plenty of room to grow in the iPad assembly.
He also pointed out that BYD Electronics could take five to six years or more to secure an iPhone assembly order. If the future iPhone console board is changed from SMT to SiP design, lowering the assembly threshold may speed up BYD Electronics’ acquisition of the iPhone assembly order.
