China Mobile has completed the world’s first emergency communications test for the world’s first 5G high-altitude base station, with a coverage capacity of more than 6.5KM at 200m. The test is the world’s first uavor plus 5G communication system coverage capability verification, further verify the feasibility of 5G high-altitude base station program and landing, for future earthquake relief work to provide a better quality emergency communication program, in more scenes to play a greater role.
As we all know, with the development of communication technology, the drone in the society is playing an important role, especially 5G came, because of its large bandwidth, low latency, multi-connection and other characteristics, giving the new demand for the drone, it can play an important role in emergency communications, security, inspection, logistics, agriculture and forestry and other different business scenarios, Enable all walks of life to reduce the cost of efficiency. China Mobile Research Institute, Xiong’an New Area Mobile Union, Huawei and Dagong Drone Company continue to scientific research and innovation, after many verifications, the UAV 5G high-altitude base station communications have made new progress, but also further break through the coverage of the problem.
The pilot was carried out in Xiong’an New Area, Hebei Province, using a residual UAV and 5G high-altitude base station to fully verify the feasibility of the scheme, in the test environment, we need to fully consider the site selection, site survey, test route, airspace application and weather and many other factors;
Wireless base station scheme: the use of Huawei’s leading 4/5G dual-mode BOOKRRU plus custom omnidirectional antenna, smaller, lighter, easy to carry, the scheme is a major breakthrough in 5G high-altitude signal coverage;
Transmission scheme: 4G has opened the BBU by portable satellite backhaul equipment and the core network connection path, 5G is currently connected to the SA core network through the ground link, the subsequent signal adaptation can be connected to the portable satellite backhaul access.
Core network program: the use of SA architecture, and Nanjing Region core network connected;
Power supply scheme: photovoltaic system retains cable power supply, can achieve continuous coverage.

After multiple validations in different scenarios, the following objectives are achieved:
1. When the drone is powered up and not taking off, the test proximity point achieves the effect of signal strength -68dBm and uplink rate of 100Mbps, downlink rate of 600Mbps
2. UAV power-up, high altitude to 200m, maintain for 4 hours, achieve maximum coverage of 6.5km

The success of this pilot provides favorable technical support for promoting the communication technology of the 5G high-altitude base station of the drone. In the future, China Mobile will continue to conduct in-depth research with Huawei to further develop the value and role of high-altitude base station communication technology to serve the community and benefit the people.
