Wooden stadium designed by Zaha Hadid Architects gets planning permission

Back in 2016, Zaha Hadid Architects (ZHA) designed a stunning wooden stadium for Forest Rovers. Now that the design has been approved for planning, ambitious sustainability projects are about to begin.

According to the ZHA, the GlenForest Wanderers Eco Park Stadium will be “the world’s first all-wood football stadium.” It will be made up almost entirely of sustainably sourced wood, with a transparent roof film to reduce the shadow of the site, while the interior will highlight the natural beauty of the wood. ZHA calculates its overall shape and 5,000-seat position, providing viewers with an excellent view and some power generation from renewable sources.

In fact, Glen Forest Wanderers call themselves “the greenest football club in the world” and its current stadium offers a vegan menu and installs electric charging stations, rainwater harvesting units, solar panels and organic farms. According to Dezeen, THE ZHA has fine-tuned the design, including all-weather pitches and new landscaping, as well as improved race-day transportation plans. The stadium is expected to take at least three years to complete.
