With next-generation consoles coming out by the end of the year, plus a large number of 3A games to be released this year, market analytics firm SuperData predicts that high-end games will earn a record $19.8 billion by 2020, or about 15.8 percent of total gaming revenue in 2020.
“High-end games will have their biggest year with revenueofing $19.8 billion, thanks to the launch of the first half of this year,” Superdata wrote in its 2019 annual report. Highly anticipated games such as Cyberpunk 2077, The Last of Us Part II, Animal Crossing:New Horizons, will be released before Sony and Microsoft turn to next-generation consoles. ”
According to Superdata, the host platform is expected to account for $14.5 billion of the $19.8 billion, while the PC platform is expected to account for $5.3 billion.
In addition to the above games, there are many more 3A games on sale in 2020, such as SE’s Final Fantasy 7: Remake, Marvel’s Avengers Alliance, and Ubisoft’s yet-to-be-released new production of The Assassin’s Creed. In addition, there are a variety of first-party exclusive games such as Halo: Infinity, so the size of the 2020 game market will be unprecedented.
