Nintendo will port at least two Wii U games to the Switch platform by 2020, according to Nintendo Insider Emily Rogers at the ResetEra Forum. Rogers laughs that the two unreleased transplant games are not hard to guess, as there are few Wii Us left to be transplanted.
Emily Rogers has a record of multiple accurate leaks of information, so she has more credibility. Nintendo is set to focus on the new Animal Crossing, which will be released in March, and will detail its plans for the 2020 launch on the upcoming first face-to-face broadcast in 2020.
Nintendo is actively promoting the Wii U game porting strategy on Switch. Despite the accepted poor hardware sales, the latter has a series of well-regarded, promising side games that will be able to shine on Switch. Mario Kart 8, for example, has sold more than 20 million units by the end of 2019.
Possible future Wii U games include Super Mario 3D World (second only to Mario Kart 8’s WiiU best-selling), “Pokemon 3,” “Fantastic 101” and “Star FireFox: Zero.”
Some industry analysts recently pointed out that the Nintendo Switch could have a longer-than-expected life cycle and could surpass the Wii sales record. Nintendo launched its portable Switch Lite last September, and there are rumours that it will launch a performance-upgraded version of the Switch Pro this year as the medium-term fulcrum for the Switch brand.
