Microsoft is cutting back on features of its voice assistant Cortana, including exiting Android, removing basic features (telling jokes and setting timers) and more. At the same time, Microsoft is actively rebuilding Cortana. Microsoft has released a major version update of Cortana Beta v2.1912.18729.0, introducing a number of new features,media Alumia reported.
Features introduced in the new release include
Recommended tasks: Although it is still a blank space, the activity is divided into three subcategories (Found, Active and History)
WakeWord: Microsoft has introduced features that can wake Up Cortana by simply named it (already implemented in older Cortana). This feature does not yet provide the ability to set up user preference wake-up words.
Redesigned settings: Microsoft has dramatically improved Cortana’s (Beta) settings, introducing a more elegant and responsive burger menu;
Older versions of Windows 10 are no longer supported: Cortana Beta is now only available for download in Windows 10 Build 19023 or later.
A large number of corrections and improvements
In an interview withmedia ventureBeat, Andrew Shuman, Vice President of Microsoft Cortana, who took over from Javier Soltero, confirmed that The Cortana app on the iOS and Android side will exit all international markets outside the United States. Microsoft has previously announced that the app will only be supported in eight countries and territories: Australia, Canada, China, Germany, India, Mexico, Spain and the United Kingdom.
At the same time as introducing new features, Cortana lost some of its features. One is that users can no longer use the Connect accounts option, so once you log in to Cortana, you can only use the account’s information. Microsoft has also temporarily removed some non-productivity features from Cortana, so it can’t tell you jokes, set timers, or get an instant response from Bing.
