Judge asks Google to hand over a year’s data on an actor

At the request of the special prosecutor, a Cook County judge in Chicago ordered Google to hand over a year-long email, photos, location data and private information from actor Jussie Smollett. Jussie Smollett, who starred in Fox’s hit drama “The Empire of Hip-Hop,” was charged in February 2019 with disciplinary offences, including paying people to perform fake hate crimes against him and filing false reports to the police.

In March 2019, he reached an agreement with prosecutors to drop all charges in exchange for community service and fines. But then the FBI announced an investigation. Investigators are seeking data for the entire year from November 2018 to November 2019, rather than the events that occurred between January and March 2019. It is unclear whether Google will hand over data from Smollett and his manager. A Google spokesman declined to comment.
