Apple on Friday launched a smart battery case replacement program for the iPhone XS, XS Max and iPhone XR, according tomedia. According to Apple, some smart battery cases may experience charging problems, including when some phone cases cannot be charged or charged intermittently after power is plugged in, or if the phone case does not charge or charge the iPhone intermittently.
The affected smart battery phone case was manufactured between January 2019 and October 2019. Apple says it’s not a security issue, and apple or apple authorized service providers will replace their eligible battery cases for free.
All smart battery cases manufactured between these dates for the iPhone XS, XS Max and XR can be replaced. Apple said the plan did not cover other iPhone smart battery cases, meaning it would not replace the iPhone 11, 11 Pro or 11 Pro Max.
Apple says customers affected by smart battery cases can find an apple authorized service provider or make an appointment at an Apple retail store to replace it. They will check the smart battery phone cases before repairs to verify that they meet the planned requirements. Affected phone cases will be handled in an environmentally friendly manner.
Since the launch of the smart battery case in early 2019, Apple has been receiving complaints about various faults and charging problems. At some point in mid-2019, smart battery cases cannot be purchased and out of stock for more than a month, which may be related to ongoing charging problems.
