For the first time in The History of the Oscars, this year is the case: it is a streaming service that receives the most nominations. On Monday, Netflix received 24 Oscar nominations, more than any other media company that received the nomination this year.
Netflix’s achievement marks the Oscars’ new approach to streaming services. Netflix’s Oscar stake isn’t easy. The streaming service has previously clashed with content creators, theater owners and Oscar judges.
Of course, getting the most nominations doesn’t mean That Netflix will end up getting the most awards. In December, the streaming service also received the most nominations (17) at the Golden Globes, but ended up with only two awards.
Behind Netflix are Disney, which received 23 nominations and Sony Pictures, which received 20 nominations. Warner Bros. and Universal earned 12 and 11 nominations, respectively, in fourth and fifth place.
