The first Homex Galaxy Exos 2X14 enterprise-class hard drive has been deployed by Tencent Cloud in China, the world’s first hard drive to integrate MACH.2 dual magnetic arm technology, Seagate announced today. The Seagate Galaxy Exos 2X14, released late last year with a capacity of 14TB, uses MACH.2 dual magnetic arm technology to set up two magnetic arms in a traditional mechanical hard drive that can work independently on the same hard drive, and IO operations are parallel.
With a hard drive and double IOPS performance, it claims to have significant advantages in the areas of content distribution network (CDN), video streaming, mail servers, backup/transmission services, Big Data Analytics (Hadoop), and cloud applications.
According to reports, from November 2019, Tencent Cloud took the lead in cooperation with Seagate to form a joint project team to introduce the Galaxy 2X14 hard drive into Tencent Cloud Data Center for product testing.
After joint testing and verification, Tencent Cloud found that Seagate Galaxy 2X14 hard drives meet the two key requirements of space capacity and I/O performance in cloud storage, while facing more challenging workloads, with higher performance and lower total cost of ownership (TCO) than single magnetic arm near-line mechanical hard drives.
In the future, Tencent Cloud will further apply the dual magnetic arm hard drive to the storage of temperature data, and play its dual advantages of reading and writing speed and storage space.
In addition, Tencent Cloud has deployed the industry’s largest Seagate Galaxy X16 16TB enterprise-class hard drive.
