Disney’s shares rebounded sharply Tuesday after reports that mobile downloads for the company’s streaming service, Disney Plus, had reached nearly 41 million. Disney shares were up 1.83 percent at $146.51. At one point, the stock fell more than 1 per cent in early trading.
In its latest report, Sensor Tower said Disney Plus was the most popular app of the year, noting that it had more than 30 million downloads in the fourth quarter of last year (after its release on November 12).
Even with a seven-day free trial period, Disney’s first 30 days are reported to have earned more than $50 million, far ahead of rivals HBO Now and Showtime.
The report also notes that in December, Disney Plus’s U.S. revenue outstripped HBO’s Best Performance Month (the final season of “Game of Thrones” was included).
