Citingmedia WCCFtech, Sony may choose to officially announce more about the PlayStation 5 around February 5, and two senior insiders now say Sony will indeed hold a new launch in February. Patrick Klepek and Mike Futter from Waypoint confirm this claim.
In the latest issue of the Waypoint Radio podcast, Patrick Klepek of Waypoint said:
There could be two big events at the same time next month: I suspect more information about the xbox and PlayStation’s next-generation consoles will be announced. I don’t know much about what Microsoft is doing, so maybe they’ll keep quiet until E3. But what is certain is that there are a lot of Sony products next month.
Sony confirmed a few days ago that it would not be available until 2020 e3, seemingly hinting that the PS5 launch would take place ahead of this year’s main gaming event. However, Sony has yet to send a press invitation to the media, with rumors that the event will take place in New York City in just a few weeks.
In addition, the day of February 5th is particularly special. Sony hosts its DPS conference every February to showcase what retailers and third-party partners are about to launch this year. According to VGC reporter Mike Futter, this year’s DPS conference, which will be held as usual and scheduled for February 5, will be handed over to the main distributor, not Sony.
Sony’s choice not to host the conference may well suggest that the company may have poured all its resources into another big event that is close to date, such as the PS5 launch. Although there has been no official confirmation, it is certain to be disclosed in February.
