The FBI and the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJe) have seized the Internet domain name weleakinfo.com after investigators found that the site was selling information from a data breach, media reported. WeLeakInfo.com is understood to be selling subscriptionservices for as little as $2 to anyone interested in accessing hacked account data.
The cheapest subscription costs $2 and offers 24-hour website access, unlimited search and “advanced” search, though the service only lasts for 1 week. If you choose a one-month subscription you’ll pay $25, and $70 will extend the access period to one quarter.
The FBI says the site has more than 12 billion indexed records from more than 10,000 data breaches, including names, email addresses, phone numbers, usernames and passwords.
The domain name is now under the control of the federal government. Interestingly, the owners of the WeLeakInfo website were unaware of the FBI’s investigation into them, and were surprised to find that the domain name was controlled by the FBI. Website subscribers are contacting the site administrator for a refund.
