Like other car brands, Kia is also pushing ahead with electrification — not just hybrids or plug-in hybrids but also pure electric vehicles, media reported. The brand said this week that a total of 11 electric cars are currently under development as part of its S plan. Under the roadmap, Kia will invest $25 billion to develop 11 electric vehicles and plans to sell 500,000 electric vehicles worldwide by 2026.
The first electric car is scheduled to go on sale in 2021, though Kia gave no further details. The company is considering making The Imagine concept car in Europe, according to a previous review by an executive. But it’s unclear whether it will pre-show an electric car directly in North America.
Electrification does not mean That Kia will abandon the internal combustion engine altogether. In fact, some of the goals outlined in Plan S include increasing sales of traditional fossil fuel vehicles. In addition, mobile services are a key factor in Kia’s expansion. But the company sees the shift in electric cars as the key to attracting young buyers. Kia focuses on millennials and Gen Z.
