When it comes to fried food, it’s good for many friends. The golden appearance, the taste of the outer crisps, can be said to be quite attractive. But after the fried food has too much fat is very annoying, especially for girls, eating too much fat means fat, so often in the “good to eat” and “cannot eat” between wandering.
In these two years, the air fryer with the “no oil is healthier” has instantly become the first choice of many people to lose weight. But is the air fryer as healthy and harmless as it advertises? I don’t think so.
South Korea’s 10 air fryer test: 4 after the explosion carcinogens exceed the standard
Recently, the Korean Consumer Association in the air fryer sample survey, testing 10 chips made in the air fryer, the current test of its safety and health, but the results are surprising.
It is reported that the Korean Consumer Association said that they put frozen fries at a high temperature of more than 200 degrees Celsius, and then in accordance with the product specification to cook, 10 air frying pans out of 4 fried fries, was detected to be carcinogen acrylamide content exceeded EU safety standards, the most serious more than twice the standard.
The 10 air fryers tested this time are all hot-selling in South Korea, including domestic Brands that have entered the Chinese market, as well as European home appliance brands. This Korea Consumer Association’s small test of the air fryer, can be said to remind all of us, that is, the air fryer claims “oil-free cooking” – healthy eating, here should be a question mark.
What is an air fryer?
Air fryer, a network celebrity product with a golden spoon, is in line with market demand (the pursuit of a healthy diet), hit consumer pain points (like fried food), so it has been the attention of all walks of life and consumer recognition since its listing. And its so-called oil-free cooking is also very simple.
General air frying pans usually use top heating, with the patented high-speed air circulation technology, through the hot air in the closed pot to form a rapid circulation of hot flow, with air instead of the original frying pan hot oil, so that the food becomes cooked;
To put it bluntly, the air fryer is actually a small oven with an air circulation system that reduces the intake of oil compared to real frying. But air fryers are not 100% oil-free, and they also need to use the fat of the food itself. So you say it’s healthy, in theory it’s healthier than conventional frying, but to say truly oil-free health, this really can’t be directly defined.
What are the safety hazards of air fryers?
Air fryer than conventional frying is healthier this we admit, but air fryer has a certain safety risk. You know, one of the biggest problems with cooking oil fried foods is that frying turns certain foods into possible carcinogens, and air fryers don’t have to be cooking without refueling, but they don’t remove the fat from the food itself. In addition, air fryer in the high temperature processing, but also cause disinformation, and may produce carcinogens.
Recent test results conducted by the Korea Consumer Association confirm this, some substandard air frying pans in fried food after the release of carcinogens, the main of which is acrylamide.
What is acrylamide? What harmful effects does it have?
Acrylamide is a chemical produced when cooking carbohydrate-rich foods at high temperatures, making them colorless transparent flaky crystals, odorless and toxic. Its relative density is 1.122, and the melting point is 84 to 85 degrees C. Soluble in water, ethanol, micro-soluble in benzene, toluene. Very easy to sublimate, easy to aggregate. Solids are stable at room temperature and can be violently polymerized when melted.
On the health risks associated with acrylamide, the National Cancer Institute said: “The study of rodent models has found that exposure to acrylamide increases the risk of several cancers. In the body, acrylamide is converted into a compound called clenched glycerides, which can cause mutations and damage to DNA. However, a large number of human epidemiological studies (case control and cohort studies) have found no consistent evidence of acrylamide exposure associated with any type of cancer risk. One reason for the inconsistency in human studies may be the difficulty of determining anacrylamide intake based on an individual’s reported diet.
According to the National Toxicology Program report on carcinogens, acrylamide is reasonably expected to be a human carcinogen, based on studies of laboratory animals that add acrylamide to drinking water.
The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) says the IARC is trying to find out what causes cancer. It has classified acrylamide as a “possible human carcinogen”.
The National Toxicology Planning Service (NTP) also said that NTP classified acrylamide as “reasonably expected as a human carcinogen” in its 2014 report on carcinogens. “
In addition, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has previously said it has classified acrylamide as “potentially carcinogenic to humans.”
Summary: Although the air fryer has the benefits of making fried food healthier, but it is not absolutely safe and healthy, or will have a certain safety risk, so usually we still eat less fried food for good, whether it is conventional frying or air frying out is also good, in order to health, or the right amount so far.
