Boeing officially stopped assembling 737MAX aircraft, potentially affecting U.S. economy

Late Monday local time, Boeing confirmed that its plant in Renton, Washington, had stopped assembling the Boeing 737 MAX aircraft. Boeing had previously announced plans to suspend production of the aircraft for a period of time in December, but has not announced an exact date for the shutdown.

Boeing said it would not cut jobs as a result of the shutdown, but with losses continuing in the industry’s supply chain, the 737 Max shutdown is likely to affect the U.S. economy.

Estimates suggest that the shutdown  could cut US gross domestic product by half in the first quarter.
