Silent protest? Bezos releases photos of journalists killed in Saudi Arabia

23 (Xinhua) — Amazon CEO Bezos posted a photo on his twitter account of his participation in a memorial service for Saud journalist Jamal Khashoggi last October. Mr Bezos is widely seen as an expression of his displeasure with Saudi Arabia as the move comes amid news that his phone had been hacked by Saudi Arabia that led to the revelation of an extramarital affair.

Earlier, according to multiplemedia reports, Amazon security experts analysis of Bezos’ mobile phone showed that saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman sent what appeared to be harmless videos to Bezos via WhatsApp, his device was implanted with spyware, resulting in a large amount of data stolen by Saudi hackers, including his extramarital affair. This eventually led to Bezos parting ways with his wife, Mackenzie.

In a statement released Wednesday, two U.N. experts said the spyware attack was “an attempt to influence the Washington Post’s coverage of Saudi Arabia” and called for further investigation.

Bezos later responded to the news on Twitter, posting a photo of himself attending a Kashuji memorial service in Istanbul last October.

The Saudis vehemently deny the claim. Saudi Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan said Wednesday that allegations that the kingdom’s crown prince was involved in a plot to eavesdrop on Bezos’ phone were “absurd.”
