Amazon asks court to suspend $10 billion contract between Microsoft and U.S. Defense Department

23 (Xinhua) — Amazon.com Inc. said Wednesday it has filed a motion to suspend up to $10 billion in cloud computing contracts between the U.S. Department of Defense and Microsoft until the court rules on its protest against the award. Amazon Web Services, Amazon’s cloud computing arm, said in a statement:

It is common practice to suspend contract performance in protest against pending suspension, and it is important to review the numerous assessment errors and blatant political interference that affect signed the AWARD decision on JEDI contracts.

The U.S. Department of Defense announced in October that it had awarded Microsoft a $10 billion contract for the Joint Defense Foundation Cloud Facility (JEDI). Amazon has complained, accusing U.S. President Donald Trump of “inappropriate pressure” and bias that led to the contract being missed.
