U.S. Senator Ed Markey continued his attack on Tesla’s autopilot feature, warning of the risks in a statement. “Tesla should rename and remarket its autonomous driving capabilities to make it clear from the outset that its driver assistance system is not completely automated and is not a substitute for drivers on the road,” Mr Markey said. “
Tesla advises drivers to hold the steering wheel tightly and stay focused when using the autopilot feature, but not all drivers can follow it.
Earlier, videos on social media showed a Tesla driving 14 miles in self-driving cars while the owner was snoring. Other unconfirmed videos also appear to show the owner sleeping while driving itself.
Mr. Markey has previously called for Tesla to ban its Autopilot assisted driving system until it installs new guards to prevent drivers from “autonomous driving” while they are asleep.
