At this year’s CES show, onePlus, a chinese handset maker, unveiled a new concept smartphone, the Concept One. The effect is that as long as the user is not running the camera application on the device, the camera will be in a “disappearing” state;
At the time, OnePlus was officially showing an orange leather version, and recently OnePlus released a black leather version of the Concept One again. Except that the leather part turned black, the other part did not change. And the black leather and the glass on the back fit more, making it look more textured.
In an interview with members of the OnePlus community, Kevin Tao, from onePlus Concept One’s industrial design team, revealed details about the Leather Back Concept One phone. Tao Kevin says this is the first time OnePlus has explored leather back design. The company again partnered with McLaren to develop the design. The phone uses the same premium leather as the McLaren 720s Supercar.
The leather rear panel provides a better look than glass. Tao said a similar leather rear panel might be used in future OnePlus smartphones, but the company will look at alternative materials. It wants to be environmentally friendly and does not use the leather used in cars. Such materials will also be easier to maintain and will not attract fingerprints.
Like the Concept One smartphone on display at the CES show, the all-black leather version will not be available to the public. Concept One is a breakthrough in camera design, and the company will continue to explore and experiment with other designs to provide users with an “unaffordable experience.”
