Media outlet Neowin reported that while the video game company Atari is no longer in its glory, it still exists. On Monday, the company announced a partnership with GSD Group to open a series of video game-themed hotels in the United States called Atari Hotels.
While this is certainly an unexpected expansion strategy for video game companies, the concept actually makes sense to some people. Regardless of age or gaming ability, these hotels will provide everyone with a “fully immersive experience” that will include AR and VR experiences. In addition, some hotels will have venues for electric competitions, which will make it easier to accommodate people attending these events.
Atari CEO Fred Chesnais said:
“We are pleased to have partnered with GSD Group and True North Studio to establish the first-ever Atari brand hotel chain in the United States. Together, we will create a space, not just a place to live (…) )。 Atari is an iconic global brand that resonates across all ages, country, culture and ethnic contexts, and we can’t wait to see our fans and their families enjoy this new hotel concept. “
The first of the eight planned hotels will begin construction this year in Phoenix, Arizona, and will be developed by True North Studio. After that, Atari Hotels will open in Las Vegas, Denver, Chicago, Austin, Seattle, San Francisco and San Jose. The hotel chain already has its own website and people can sign up as members to get exclusive offers.
