Japanese prosecutors search Goin’s former lawyer’s office

29 (Xinhua) — Tokyo prosecutors on Wednesday searched the office of Junichiro Hironaka, the former chief defense lawyer for former Nissan chairman Carlos Ghosn, possibly looking for documents related to Mr. Ghosn’s flight from Japan to Lebanon, NHK reported. Ichiro Hirohito, one of Japan’s most famous defence lawyers, nicknamed “The Razor”, denied any involvement in helping Mr. Ghosn escape.

Earlier this month, he refused to allow Tokyo prosecutors with search warrants to enter his office and prevent them from confiscating a computer used by Mr. Ghosn while on bail, on the grounds that, under article 105 of Japan’s Code of Criminal Procedure, lawyers, doctors and others had the right to refuse the authorities the confiscation of items containing confidential information containing his professional duties.

In an interview with Japan’s Asahi Shimbun newspaper, Mr. Ghosn also said his lawyers in Japan knew nothing about his escape plans.
