Tesla under Musk has made great strides in electric cars and is a benchmark in the electric car space, but like the usual people, Tesla is not perfect, and there are some problems, a Ford engineer recently expressed his views on Tesla.
The engineer, who has not been named, said in a question-and-answer session on Reddit that he claimed to be an engineer for the Ford Mustang Mach-E project and an electric car enthusiast who spent most of his career on electric cars.
In an AMA session on Reddit, the anonymous Ford engineer praised Tesla’s progress on electric vehicles, saying they were five years ahead of the industry in terms of technology and engineering in battery and high-voltage electronics, as well as their ability to harness them.
While praising Tesla, the anonymous Ford engineer also spoke extensively about Tesla’s shortcomings in electric cars.
The engineer said Tesla’s engineering was the worst and often scary in the industry he had ever seen, and that their logistics and quality were terrible.
Judging by the information he revealed at the AMA, he believes Tesla’s poor quality is the result of the dismantling of multiple cars. The anonymous engineer revealed that when they first opened the Model 3, its screws were already loose, randomly dropped near sensitive parts, panel alignment and final completion were absurd, and their electronics often touted safety guidelines but did not meet UL regulations.
The anonymous engineer also said that in his view, tesla has a gap with other automakers in car manufacturing, both in terms of design, user experience and manufacturing and logistics, but in his view, Tesla could do better.
