BEIJING, Feb. 8 morning, according tomedia reports, the latest data show that the Tesla Model 3 is not only the best-selling electric car in the U.S. market, but also the only year-on-year sales growth of the product. The Model 3 sold 158,925 vehicles in the U.S. in 2019, topping the list of best-selling electric vehicles, up 14 percent from 2018, according to the data.
By comparison, Toyota’s Prius Prime was second with 23,630 units last year, but down 14 per cent year-on-year. In addition, Tesla’s other two Model X and Model S are also on the list, in third and fifth place, respectively.
Nevertheless, sales of model X and Model S have also fallen. Model X sold 19,225 vehicles in the U.S. last year, down 26% from a year earlier. Model S sales were 14,100 units, down 45% year-on-year.
Throughout 2019, Tesla delivered about 367,500 electric vehicles worldwide, up 50 percent from the previous year, achieving its target.
Earlier this month, Peter Rawlinson, CEO of Lucid Motors, a US electric car start-up, said Tesla was still a leader in electric vehicle technology. Moreover, the gap with competitors is widening, not narrowing. (Li Ming)
