Professor Pu Muming, Academic Director of the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligent Technology (the Center for Excellence in Brain Intelligence) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, opened a live course on the Beep Mile website, teaching a series of neurobiology courses for neuroscience researchers, but the audience is far larger than on-site teaching. The first hit on February 10th reached 97,000, with more than 4,000 fans and more than 6,600 fans as of 16 p.m. on February 11.
In accordance with the requirements of the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Shanghai Municipal Education Commission on the “deferred start of the school”, the graduate students of the Center for Excellence in Brain Intelligence will not start school until the end of February, and all the students from Shanghai are waiting to start the school. In order to achieve the goal of “suspension of school”, at the initiative of the Central Party Committee and the Leading Group on Epidemic Prevention and Control, the Center of Excellence in Brain Intelligence took the lead in launching a series of live video courses on neurobiology on February 10, 2020, by Pu Muming.
According to the Public No. 1 of the Institute of Neuroscience of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Pu Muming plans to systematically review his academic career for more than 40 years by conducting a comprehensive condensing session on his important academic lectures at international academic conferences. At the same time, for younger audiences, the course will focus more on the background of research and reflection on his personal exploration process. He will also look forward to some difficult issues in neuroscience, hoping to arouse discussion among teachers and students, so that students have the opportunity to think deeply about scientific issues.
Pu Muming, neurobiologist and biophysicist. Born on October 31, 1948, in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, he was born in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. He graduated from the Department of Physics of Tsinghua University in Taiwan in 1970 and received his Ph.D. from Johns Hopkins University in 1974. He is currently a researcher at the Institute of Neuroscience of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of the Institute of Neurology, and Director of the Center for Excellence in Brain Science and Intelligent Technology.
He has made a series of important research achievements in the fields of nerve growth and axon guidance, neuronal polarity establishment and neuron altogether migration, neural loop function and plasticity. He was awarded the Honorary Title of “Chinese Academy of Sciences” in Taiwan, Foreign Fellow of the American Academy of Sciences, and Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Sciences, and was awarded the Ameritec Award, the People’s Republic of China International Science and Technology Cooperation Award, the Outstanding Scientist Award, the Chinese Academy of Sciences Collective Award for Outstanding Scientific and Technological Achievements, and the Gruber Neuroscience Award.
After the above-mentioned live course initiative was launched, the live video team completed the live program in two days and tested it, and on February 10, from 14:00-16:00 p.m., He started his first live video session on the Beep Mile website. In his first presentation on February 10, he shared the exploration process in research areas such as biomembrane protein fluidity, neurogrowth and axon orientation, and research progress in related fields.
Video courses use popular live-streaming sites as a platform, while capturing desktop and video camera videos to restore real-world teaching scenes so that graduate students from all over the country can hear lectures at home. Students can also play a message to ask questions, teaching assistants to organize the questions after the real-time transmission, Pu Muming selectimportant questions to answer. The process basically realized the effect of live teaching, because it is live on the network, the number of listeners far exceeds the live teaching.
