In the early hours of February 12, Samsung officially unveiled a new generation of flagship Galaxy S series, including the S20, S20 Plus, S20 Ultra, an important selling point of the S20 series is a high refresh rate of 120Hz, and up to 3200 x 1440 2K resolution. After the launch, Marques Brownlee, a well-known technology video blogger, also uploaded his own Galaxy S20 video, in which he confirmed the bad news that 120Hz and 2K screens were not “compatible.”
Specifically, turning on the 120Hz system on the Galaxy S20 automatically lowers the resolution to FHD plus, and only enjoys a 60Hz refresh if adjusted to a 2K resolution.
There is no doubt that the only explanation samsung has for such restrictions is to keep the phone running, and it seems samsung has a very sober understanding of the power consumption of the WQHD-120Hz.
For now, consumers who want 120Hz plus 2K can only hope for the future of technology to crack Samsung’s limits, or they can expect the OnePlus8, the iPhone 12 Pro MAX.
