Tesla Autopilot to take on rivals: Lexus announces push for L2 self-driving system this year

The Japanese luxury car brand plans to launch a production vehicle with Level 2 self-driving cars sometime this year.

Koji Sato, the brand’s president, said level 2’s self-driving system was just the beginning. In the future, according to him, the system, known as Highway Teammate, will continue to improve the automation of cars through wireless updates (OTAs).

Unfortunately, Mr Sato did not say which car the system would be the first to be rolled out. Maybe it’s a mileage-leading sedan or SUV. Sato has told the media that Lexus wants to install the system on every car at the appropriate time, which could be a matter of time before the entire brand is launched.
