The third-generation Tesla solar roof tile has a higher power density, and in many ways the product may be more suitable for the European market, but it is currently only available in the U.S.,media reported. A week ago, Elon Musk, Tesla’s chief executive, said the solar roof business would soon expand into China and Europe.
Now, in addition to announcing further expansion of its services in the U.S., Musk has confirmed that Tesla will expand its solar roof business internationally later this year.
Mr Musk said solar roof tiles would initially be produced in the US, but hoped it would eventually be made there.
Musk had earlier said expanding his solar panel business was one of his main priorities in 2020. Tesla began expanding the business after acquiring Solar City in 2016.
Tesla last year introduced a third-generation Tesla solar roof tile, and says that in about 80 percent of the cases, solar roofs are cheaper than new roofs and separate lying-mounted solar systems.
The latest third-generation solar roof tiles have a higher power density, which means that the required solar roof tiles are reduced by 50%, which helps to reduce costs. Tesla estimates that the third-generation Tesla solar roof tile system, with a 25-year warranty, will still cost about $33,950.
