The Trump administration is considering changing U.S. rules to allow companies such as TSMC to supply chips to Huawei Technologies, Reuters reported. At this week’s and next high-level U.S. meetings, or to discuss strengthening export controls for Huawei. A source said the chip proposal had been drafted, but it was not known whether it would be approved.
The move will hit TSMC, the world’s second-largest smartphone maker and a major maker of Huawei’s Haist chip.
‘What the U.S. is trying to do is make sure that no chips flow to Huawei, where they can control it, ‘ said another.
Huawei is seen by the US as a central point in its battle with China for global technology dominance. The U.S. is trying to persuade allies to exclude Huawei from 5G construction.
Huawei has repeatedly denied the claims.
