Rocket Lab, a private space flight company, will realize its dream of launching a payload into the moon,media reported. NASA has chosen the Rocket Laboratory to launch its CAPSTONE (Cislunar Autonomous Positioning System Technology Operations and Navigation Experiment) Cube Satellite into lunar orbit in early 2021. When the cube satellite pushes itself into a lunar orbit, it will only process the last stage.
The microsatellite, which weighs just 55 pounds, will be the first to demonstrate navigation with the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, but it will eventually become a “pathfinder” to help the Artemis-planned Gateway spacecraft get safely close to the moon.
It is reported that the Cubic Satellite is a small satellite for space research, consisting of 10 cm x 10 cm x 11.35 cm cubic units of multiples. Each unit of cubic satellite weighs no more than 1.33 kg and is often used as a circuit and structure for commercial spot components.
