According tomedia reports, the new Tesla Model S owners will have a lovely surprise. CEO Elon Musk confirmed on Twitter on Friday that all electric cars produced “in recent months” will have a range upgrade. So what’s the new data? It is estimated to be 390 miles (about 628 km).
It is reported that compared to the original range, the upgrade will bring 17 miles of model S upgrade.
The news came as a surprise because Musk said on the company’s fourth-quarter earnings conference call that the car could have a range of about 380 miles. Even more surprising, he revealed that Tesla had spent at least a few months on the cars, resulting in higher range. According to Musk’s tweet, owners can unlock additional range smiles with free software upgrades.
Tesla did not immediately respond to a request for comment on when the owners could expect the upgrade.
In addition to the Model S, Model X will also be upgraded. The EPA estimates that the Long Range Plus will have a range of 351 miles, an increase of 23 miles. Like Model S, it will receive a free software upgrade.
Notably, the updates followed Musk’s announcement that it was very close to 400 miles of range. As for how Tesla does this, Musk said on Twitter that a lot of “hardware improvements” are key.
