Microsoft has recently come under fire for using old icons in Windows 10, some of which date back to the Windows 98 era, but it seems that not only Microsoft, apples have used old icons in its operating system. Apple, for example, insisted on using the same default user profile picture in Mac OS as it did many years ago, which was clearly unexpected given that the entire operating system had been greatly improved.
Maria Kazandjieva, Netflix’s engineering manager, pointed out the problem on Twitter, stressing that despite the use of the 2020 device, she still sees old-fashioned icons, including flowers, birds, lipsticks and sports. While you can use your profile picture in Mac OS, Apple hasn’t updated the default user profile picture set in its operating system for a long time. This is either intentional, either to keep the old MacOS alive, or to do so, in which case Apple just forgot that this part of the operating system needs to be updated.
Of course, this is not the key issue for MacOS, but on the other hand, it does show that upgrading the entire operating system from one version to another is not easy. In Microsoft’s Case Windows 10, for example, Microsoft is still updating the look of Windows 10, even though the operating system was released in 2015. Part of the company, Fluent Design, was announced years ago, but as the release of Windows 10 continues to be released, it is still gradually being rolled out to different Windows 10 devices.
