In Microsoft’s original vision, live tiles on the start menu were able to continuously get and render information, but in fact most tiles did not show any useful information. While live tiles are useful on smartphones and tablets, most desktop users still prefer traditional desktop Uis.
After the death of Windows 10 Mobile, Microsoft has completely stopped improving the live tile experience on Windows 10. While third-party apps such as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram support live tiles, they don’t show any useful information.
If the rumors are true, the Windows 10 Start menu is about to welcome a bunch of static icons that represent upcoming apps and games. The redesigned Windows 10 Start menu will be closer to Windows 10X, but the UI will be tailored to the desktop.
People familiar with the development tell us that Microsoft plans to replace live tiles with icons in future updates after Windows 10 20H2 is released. We expect the live tiles of Windows 10 to disappear sometime in 2020/2021, most likely until the 2021 feature update.
