James O’Donoghue is a planetary scientist at Japan’s Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA),media CNET reported. He has worked at NASA and has published papers on Saturn’s atmosphere and rings. O’Donoghue tweeted Wednesday that it gave a fair assessment of the Saturn emoji emojis of Apple, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Twitter and WhatsApp.
O’Donoghue’s whole theme is worth a look. Along the way, you’ll learn some good Saturn facts and gain new appreciation for what you need to achieve a real emoji design.
Although Apple did “a good job of capturing the golden shadow of Saturn’s cloud top,” it failed a major test by exaggerating Saturn’s inclination of more than 26.7 degrees. O’Donoghue identified Apple’s efforts as the overall winner of Saturn’s atmosphere, but did not win the ranking.
The winner of the scientist’s informal competition was WhatsApp, thanks to the tireless efforts of the emoji designer and the true reproduction of the planet ring.
Some emojis deviated from reality, with O’Donoghue labeling Twitter’s orange and yellow emojis as “the most excessive thing.”
