The Vanishing Geneva Motor Show and the BBA’s Oil-Electric Double-Line Battle

The 90th Geneva International Auto Show, which was supposed to open on March 3rd, was temporarily cancelled due to the outbreak. To this end, some of the original auto show companies had to change the offline show to an online launch, including BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Volkswagen, Porsche and many other auto manufacturers.

On the afternoon of March 3, Beijing time, the car manufacturers released using “Cloud Live” were on the line. Take a look at the new cars that are supposed to shine at the auto show.

As one of the old players in the field of performance cars, Audi is reluctant to make electric cars a mere commuter tool.

So in the world premiere of the new Audi E-Tron Sportback and Audi E-Tron Family S models on March 3rd, Audi said the two models would be “more agile, violent and dynamic” than the regular version.

All thanks to Audi’s three-motor drive system (rear-axle dual motor, front-axle single motor) for the E-Tron and E-Tron Sportback, which increased the power of the S version from 265 kW to 320 kW.

Interestingly, Audi also has an enhanced mode that lasts 8 seconds, when the total power of the vehicle will increase further to 370 kW (which can be converted to 350, 429 and 496 hp, respectively). In addition, both cars can reach 4.3 seconds of zero acceleration, more than a second faster than the regular version.

Although the S version of the E-Tron is equipped with a three-motor drive system, they are not always working. In “normal driving” mode, only two electric power espresso on the rear axle is powered. When the driver needs more power, the front axle motor will be silently involved.

The configuration of the three motors also gives the car torque vector capability. In short, different power is provided to different axles or wheels in real time, giving the car maximum grip in any situation.

Despite the three-motor drive system, the two new electric cars are not the ultimate in performance, and Tesla can still shake them off. However, for the luxurious four-door model, this performance has been quite strong.

For now, Audi has not announced when and how much the S version of the E-Tron will be available. But they claim that the S version of the E-Tron will be “the first three-motor production model in the world.” As for whether Audi can pre-empt Tesla’s production of the three-motor model, time will tell (the future Tesla Model S/X/Roadster/Cybertruck will be available with a three-motor version codenamed Plaid).

Performance improvements, the S version of the E-Tron battery has not improved?

As far as the information is available, the S version of the E-Tron uses the 95kWh battery on the regular version, which lasts a little more than 200 miles. If you add a third motor, the weight of the car will inevitably increase. At the same time, improved performance also means faster power consumption. It remains to be seen how Audi will strike a balance between performance and battery life.

As BMW’s first all-electric four-door coupe, the BMW i4 concept car was also unveiled on March 3rd.

The concept car features BMW’s fifth-generation eDrive electric drive technology and is equipped with an ultra-thin battery with a better energy density to deliver up to 530 horsepower. At the same time, the development and production of eDrive electric drive technology, including battery research, is done by the BMW Group itself.

The BMW i4 concept car’s 600 km range also greatly relieves the user’s mileage anxiety. In terms of performance, it takes only about 4 seconds to accelerate from stationary to 100 km/ and has a top speed of more than 200 km/h.

Now the BMW i4 is still a concept car, and BMW says the BMW i4 production version will start production at BMW’s Munich plant in 2021.

In addition, BMW will launch the all-electric BMW iX3 this year. This is BMW’s first pure electric sport utility vehicle and is considered by BMW to be a pioneer in the fifth generation BMW eDrive electric drive technology.

Beneath this platform, BMW’s new energy product matrix is also being pulled apart.

BMW will launch more plug-in hybrid models in 2020, including the new BMW X1 plug-in hybrid, BMW X2 and electric version of the BMW 3 Series stationwag.

Bmw Group Chairman Chip Pitzer said at the launch: By the end of next year, there will be 1 million BMW new energy vehicles on the road.

At present, Porsche has been in the domestic layout of paramera mixed version, Cayenne mixed version and Taycan pure electric car three new energy models, of which Taycan is Porsche’s first all-electric model, foreshadowing the brand has officially entered the era of electrification.

While new energy models are keeping up, strong power is still a priority for Porsche 911 Turbo S performance cars.

Oliver Blum, Porsche’s chief executive, said that while the major manufacturers are in the open with electrification, the Porsche 911 has no plans to introduce electric cars in the future and will never change the properties of fuel cars, media reported.

On the afternoon of March 3, the New Turbo S, the new flagship model of the Porsche 911 series, was also released live online, with pre-sale in the Chinese market. The new car offers a hard top and an open-top version, with the 911 Turbo S selling for $2.336 million and the 911 Turbo S Cabriolet for $2.473 million.

The new Porsche 911 Turbo S models feature a dual headlight module and standard LED matrix headlights. The front face design is in turbo-style design language with wider air intakes.

The 911 Turbo S is significantly wider and has a greater driving dynamic than the previous generation: the front body has a total width of 1,840 mm (45 mm wider) and the rear width is 1,900 mm (20 mm wider).

The new 3.8-litre platform engine features two VTG turbochargers, 61 horsepower more than the previous generation. The new car has a 0-100km/h acceleration time of 2.7 seconds, a 0-200km/h acceleration time of 8.9 seconds and a top speed of 330km/h.

At an online launch on March 3, Volkswagen officially unveiled id.s.series’ first mass-produced pure electric SUV, ID.4.

This is the volkswagen brand’s first pure electric compact SUV, and the first pure electric SUV built on a MEB platform for the global market, and will be available in multiple range-range versions.

Previously, faw-Volkswagen released the ID. first sighted and SAIC-Volkswagen ID. Two camouflage vehicles are the prototype of the VOLKSWAGEN ID4.

VW said ID.4 would be the first to launch a rear-drive version, followed by a pure electric four-wheel drive version.

The HIGH-voltage battery of ID.4 is placed at the bottom of the vehicle close to the center to ensure a lower center of gravity, helping the vehicle achieve better dynamic driving performance while achieving a balanced shaft load distribution. According to the battery capacity, ID.4 range of up to 500 kilometers.

In the future, Volkswagen ID.4 will be put into production in China, the United States and Europe, and will be launched in China in the second half of this year, respectively, FAW-Volkswagen and SAIC-Volkswagen, respectively, and will be launched within the year.

In addition, Volkswagen’s plug-in hybrid model, the Toure R, and the eighth-generation Golf Family (Golf GTI/GTD/GTE) were also shown live.

While Mercedes-Benz’s cloud-streaming room is slightly toned, the rich models it brings are still dazzling.

On March 3rd Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation E-Class family and three new generation-of-generation plug-in hybrids were unveiled in a live broadcast on the cloud.

Since its inception in 1946, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class (cars and tour cars) has sold more than 14 million vehicles, making it the best-selling model in the history of the Mercedes-Benz brand. The 10th-generation E-Class has gained more than 1.2 million loyal users worldwide since it was successfully launched in 2016.

Mercedes-Benz’s next-generation E-Class

And the new generation of E-Class cars, while inheriting the luxury genes of the past, also unlocks more intelligent design. For example, equipped with MBUX intelligent human-computer interaction system, can have a voice, touch and gesture trinity of human-computer interaction experience.

In terms of intelligent driving, the new generation of E-Class vehicles are also equipped with the latest intelligent driver assistance system, with intelligent pilot limit function, active stop-and-go assist function, intelligent pilot steering function and so on.

At the same time, the new generation of E-Class cars has welcomed a new member of the AMG family, the AMG E 53 4MATIC Plus sedan.

In addition, Mercedes-Benz is expanding its new energy model product stake.

The new CLA plug-in hybrid four-door coupe, the new CLA plug-in hybrid five-door hunting car, and the new GLA plug-in hybrid SUV all use Mercedes-Benz’s third-generation plug-in hybrid technology, with an electric range of more than 70 km (NEDC standard).

In the case of pure electric cars, Mercedes-Benz’s new EQ pure electric prototype is undergoing a series of rigorous winter tests, from battery heat management to charging in cold environments, and is expected to be available to the public soon.

“This year, we continue to drive digitalization and electrification, aiming to reduce CO2 emissions by more than 20% across the overall lineup,” said Kang Linson, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Daimler AG and Mercedes-Benz AG. “

To achieve this goal, Daimler will promote 48-volt smart motor technology in all its ranges, including the next-generation E-Class, and plans to double sales of 48V light hybridmodels this year, with plug-in hybrids and all-electric vehicles accounting for four times as much as before.

On the whole, it will be found that the traditional luxury car manufacturers are increasing their electrification offensive, which also confirms once again the trend of the new energy vehicle market, pure electric vehicles will be the future trend.

As for their upcoming new car, whether it can be compared with the current new energy vehicle sector such as the Sky Tesla, may as well be turned to market sales.
