Outbreak Affects Supply Tesla Uses Old Chips on Some Homemade Model 3s

Tesla has become the latest company to struggle with the new corona virus outbreak. Because of the impact of the outbreak on the domestic supply chain, which caused supply disruptions, the company had to use the old Hardware 2.5 chip on the domestic Model 3 instead of the latest Hardware 3.0 chip.

There is no doubt that Tesla’s move has led to the ire of many domestic Model 3 consumers after discovering that its vehicles use old hardware, which is produced at the company’s Super factory in Shanghai. The new chip can process up to 21 times faster than the previous generation. The chip was designed and developed by Tesla autonomously to handle self-driving tasks.

Reported that the domestic Model 3 owners in the comparison of the vehicle controller hardware code found this difference. Tesla immediately apologized and said it would offer free hardware upgrades to all affected owners after supply resumes.

The outbreak has had other effects on the company’s operations in China. Tesla had to suspend production at its Shanghai plant just weeks after it went into production. The plant was re-started on February 10.

In addition to domestic consumers, consumers in countries other than China are also feeling the effects of the outbreak. Valve, for example, has previously said that the company’s Index VR head-on device will be limited. Some tech conferences have also had to be suspended, with Google announcing tuesday that this year’s Google I/O conference will be canceled.
