IBM announced that the IBM Think 2020 conference scheduled for May in San Francisco will be held online with live video streaming and interactive events due to the risk of a coronavirus outbreak. The conference was expected to attract about 30,000 people to the site. IBM also said it was taking stricter measures for employee travel, including suspending domestic travel for internal meetings, banning more than 1,000 people from outside activities by the end of the month, and self-isolation for two weeks for employees traveling to countries at high risk of the outbreak.
Tech giants such as Google, Microsoft and Facebook have also changed their plans for the first half of this year’s developer conference. The Google I/O Developer Conference and Microsoft’s offline MVP Summit conference were canceled directly. Facebook’s F8 conference and Nvidia’s GTC conference have all been switched to live online.
In addition to events hosted by technology companies, several industry heavyweight events have also been cancelled or postponed due to the outbreak. Such as MWC 2020, computer-top event ASPLOS 2020 directly cancelled. China Home Appliance Expo AWE2020 will be held in combination with AWE2021.
