The American Psychological Association issued a press release on March 3rd reiterating that there was insufficient scientific evidence to link video games to violence, a conclusion that came from a reissue in February 2020. APA’s Board Standing Committee sent a task force to review the APA’s 2015 resolution;
The move comes as some media and policymakers have said the resolution (2015) points to a link between violent games and violence, including mass shootings.
APA President Sandra L. “Violence is a complex social problem that can stem from many factors and deserves the attention of researchers, policy makers and the public,” says Dr Shullman. It is unscientific to attribute violence to video games and distracts attention from other causes, such as the impact of a history of violence, which is an important indicator of violence from the study. “
A republished resolution in February 2020 and documents such as a survey report are attached to the bulletin, which interested readers can view on their own.
