The best-selling 5G phone on the U.S. market in 2019 is Samsung’s Galaxy Note 10 Plus 5G, according to the latest statistics from MarketResearch. The report says the U.S. sold fewer than 2 million 5G handsets in 2019, accounting for less than 1% of all handsets. Samsung topped the list of 5G handset makers with 74%, while LG and OnePlus came in second and third.
“For a variety of reasons, sales of 5G smartphones are below U.S. expectations in 2019,” Jeff Fieldhack, head of Counterpoint Research, said in a statement released Tuesday. He says the main reason is that 5G phones are expensive and have limited coverage in the US.
Counterpoint expects that number to increase around mid-2020 due to the expansion of 5G coverage and rumors that Apple will launch a 5G iPhone. Fieldhack said he expects sales of 5G smartphones to grow from 1 per cent to about 25 per cent of all smartphone sales in the US by the end of 2020.
