To date, the Kirin 990 5G is the only commercially available 5G fully integrated SoC processor in the world, now used in the Mate 30 5G, Mate 30 Pro 5G, Mate 30 RS Porsche design, and in March next year for the new folding screen model Mate Xs. After dismantling and analyzing the internal chips of the Mate 30 Pro 5G, TechInsights focused on the Kirin 990 5G and published the kernel photo and size area.
According to measurements, the area of the Kirin 990 5G is 10.68 x 10.61 x 113.31 square millimeters, and at this point as many as 10.3 billion transistors are integrated, the world’s first transistor number of more than 10 billion mobile SoCs.
For comparison, the area of the Kirin 980 is 8.25 x 9.16 x 75.57 square millimeters, and the Kirin 990 5G is a full 50% larger, but don’t forget that the Kirin 980 is built into a 4G base band, and mate 20 X 5G, mate X also with a Baron 5000 5G baseband, The latter area is 9.82 x 8.74 x 85.83 square millimeters (not expected to be 13.6% larger than the Kirin 980), the Combined Kirin 980 and the Baron 5000 is 161.4 square millimeters.
Therefore, the Kirin 990 5G this fully integrated scheme, than the previous generation of external hanging scheme reduced by a full 30%!
However, TechInsights has not yet announced the specific distribution of the 5G baseband, A76 Magic/A55 CPU core, Mali-G76 GPU core, memory controller, NPU unit, etc. in the Kirin 990 5G chip, and so on.
