Tesla is understood to be in China with another blockbuster, the solar Roof V3, a third-generation solar roof, following the electric car. The Solar Roof team in China has been built at Tesla’s China headquarters in Shanghai, and Tesla is looking for talent and even offering a top annual salary of up to $480,000 for business development managers, insiders say.
Sina Technology learned that some domestic photovoltaic engineering companies, has received an invitation from Tesla China, will be construction and operation suppliers to participate in The Tesla Solar Roof in the Chinese market promotion services.
Musk’s lifegoal is to “accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy,” and solar roofs are an important step in Musk’s goal. In a previous earnings call in February 2020, Musk said solar roofs would be a major business for Tesla.
Musk estimates that in the U.S. alone, about 4-5 million new roofs are available each year, while 100 million homes worldwide use the product.
In China, photovoltaic power generation is also growing at a high speed, from 0.2GW in 2008 to 44.3GW in 2018, with a compound growth rate of 71.6%. In 2018, China’s total installed capacity of photovoltaic power generation reached 175GW, accounting for more than one-third of the total installed capacity of the world.
Entering the Chinese market will also accelerate Musk’s dream of “accelerating the world’s transition to sustainable clean energy.”
