Google is slowly but steadily opening its Stadia cloud gaming service to more interested customers, and this month it will launch a new promotion offering a three-month Stadia Pro subscription to new buyers of Chromecast Ultra devices, media reported. Google confirmed to The Verge that this was the first time the platform had been promoted to Stadia, which works in a similar way to the platform’s buddy pass system.
It’s important to be clear that the Stadia Pro is currently the only available version of Google’s cloud service; while there will be a free standard, Stadia, that doesn’t support 4K streaming in the future, it’s not yet available. For now, the only way to run Stadia on Chrome or on a supported Android device is to use a Chromecast Ultra that connects to your TV.
Now, the Stadia Pro costs $10 a month. Until this promotion, the only way to access the service is through a friend card from an existing user or to purchase a $129 Premiere version. The kit includes a 3-month pass for the Stadia Pro, Google’s custom Stadia handle and Chromecast Ultra.
